Perhaps the best way to change your hairstyle, in case you have straight hair, is to try wavy or curly hairstyles. But, if you are trying to make straight hair curly and wavy then you should stay away from perms as they may damage your hair and wont allow you to get straight hair till the perms grow out. There are nonetheless many other methods that you can use to get curly or wavy hair and here are a few of them:

#1) You can braid your hair after washing it. Do this to wet hair to get tighter waves. Sleep with braided hair and keep them like that till you are ready to leave for the day. Use hairspray before removing the braids to ensure that your hair remains wavy.

#2) Put your hair in a bun and leave for half a day. You can also use a blow dryer for a quicker solution. After washing your hair, put it in a bun and blow dry it using the cool or medium setting. You can leave it in a bun then for getting better defined waves or let it down to get a subtle wavy style.

#3) You can go to sleep with fabric rollers in your hair. Wear a hair cap to help keep it tight. The damper your hair is when you go to bed, the curlier it will be the next morning. This is good if you would rather sleep than style your hair in the morning.

#4) You can also use a flat iron. Just twist your wrist towards your head after clamping down on a part of your hair and hold the position as you glide down the lock of hair.

#5) A curling iron with detachable barrels in varying diameters can also help you get curls of different sizes. This will make your hair seem naturally curly. You can also use a spiral curling iron to get ribbon curls.
